So has anyone been recently effected latest hurricane to hit the east?

I have some how managed to keep power but there's stills some damage to my house, the trimming outside my room has fallen off.

I also heard the Atlantic City board walk is now crumbling.

Here in upstate NY it's nothing more severe than a bad storm. As I said in the blog, last night I was incredibly nervous about it. And yeah. Sure, it's raining sideways right now, but it's not the worst thing in the world to happen. I've been through storms just as bad before.

As for Reun, who's from Long Island, well, he's absolutely screwed.

The wind seems to have calmed down now, I guess made it through this without loosing power.

Well, I was pretty worried about it at first, but it appears that it'll do a complete 90-degree turn up into New York before the worst of it hits me (as for the people in Buffalo, I do believe it's getting roundhouse-kicked your way soon). So it looks like all that's coming out of it for me at the moment is minor structure damage and a day off school Tuesday (that we don't have to make up due to Pennsylvania declaring a state of emergency ), so I may as well make the most of this storm while it's here. I feel sorry for residents of New York/Maryland/Delaware/eastern Pennsylvania though; from what I heard, the waters are rapidly rising everywhere, including in places where it'd normally be LOW TIDE, which doesn't sound very good for when high tide comes back in...

I've been through exactly one hurricane, and it was almost head-on. Going through the eye was strange, I must say, as it calmed down but got a little cold.

Over here in MichiganLand, the wind has been pretty bad all day. We're gonna get dumped on with whatever the eastern seaboard didn't get, with the possibility of snow mixed into it.

What Ditto said. We had some rather strong winds for the past day or so. Some places around here even had gusts of wind reach 75 mph. It actually snowed in my area this morning just as I left from school... well, it was more like snow and hail mixed, along with the gusts of wind to make one giant weather condition known as "screw your morning commute."

I've been out of power for half of yesterday and most of today practically. All I can say is that the wind was the biggest problem considering where I live. My house is surrounded by trees, so it was just a big target for falling trees and branches. =w= I did manage to take a few pictures before I helped my family clear out all of the branches and trees.

Reun's experience with Hurricane Sandy
001.JPG

This is a tree that fell directly onto our driveway. (I'm so glad I moved my car before that happened >_<)

004 (2).JPG

This is a picture of my backyard after the worst of the storm came. (Most of my backyard is a deck, by the way) A cedar tree was ripped out of the ground from the wind and several large branches are down. All of those small branches were soon cut up by my katana. Gotta give me credit for making the clean up fun.

007.JPG

It's hard to see, but a tree trunk fell on top of our power lines (We had already started to clear this one out) It also crushed my mom's garden. :<

006.JPG

My neighbor on the other hand...was not so lucky. A tree actually hit her house. Besides damages to her roof and gutter, her house is still fine.

008.JPG

This is just another angle of the damage to my neighbor's house.

lol wisconsin felt nothin', except for some not-so-severe winds. However, as of recently, that's been pretty common, so that's really not a big deal at all.

It strikes me, does the government (or whoever is responsible in your state) clean those trees (even if they are private), or is it the individual's responsibility?

Depends on whether the government owns the land, if the trees become a major concern for public safety on a privately owned land then there will be no choice but to cut them down.

But mainly it's the individual's responsibility.

Part of the back gate to my house was broken apart (the door) and slid down to the end of the sidewalk. Also, a transformer just across the street blew out and the power went kaput for two days.

School was closed, it continues tomorrow. Wish it didn't, though.

Looks like a nor'easter is going to make landfall tomorrow afternoon and possibly cause an ice storm.

Since you live in the desert I'm slightly surprised you know what one is, nah I kid.

But I really hope not while I would love to see snow since I have no school to worry about now but I am really sick of seeing terrible weather especially after the terrible Halloween snowstorm last year.

Long Island wasn't too badly affected by the Noreaster. Over here, there was a lot of freezing rain and snow. The wind only made it seem colder than it actually was. I did manage to take two pictures (both of which were taken from my front door) of what the storm did. As of now, the snow is starting to melt.

That snow reminds me of that one day when we got a decent snowstorm. Folks in Las Vegas just aren't prepared for snow, and I assume the same is somewhat true in New York.

Well it's a desert over there. Based on what happens in New Jersey and the fact the New York is more northern, I'm pretty sure they always get their decent amount of snow. I just want to know why the snowstorm COMPLETELY skips Maryland and moves up there. All we get is dry wind, and I think it's making me catch a cold.

He's right. I even decided to look up an article about it. Maybe I can use this for AP English.

Speaking of aid, I've been seeing a lot of PSAs about donating to the Red Cross, so there's that too.

At least New York isn't like the southern states that shut down everything at the first sight of snow and call those who drive on the roads when there is slush on the ground crazy people.
