Last night was the last competition for qualifying for state competition. We were in 10th and only ten get to move up. As of like 1:20 A.M. this morning we are going. It happens to be this coming Saturday.
Now, I know I didn't clarify. I did that on purpose. Our school is in the MCBA, the Michigan Competing Band Association. Only the ten best marching bands from each best flight get to go to Ford Field, and march on that turf. The past couple of years, we've been going into state at about 5[sup:mdgfrve1]th[/sup:mdgfrve1]. We obtained a lower score than we had hoped for last night, and the school that was in eleventh wasn't that far behind. Needless to say right now, I'm pretty happy.
We are playing an arrangement of Carmina Burana. I can't remember the song's names, but I think they are on my band shirt. *goes to get said shirt*
O Fortuna, In Taberna Quando Sumus, Amor Volat Undique, Were Diu Werlt Alle Min, and Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi.
Carmina Burana was originally a book of medieval poetry, but a guy named Carl Orff composed music to the poems. It's actually pretty cool.
Fun Fact: Carmina Burana was written in Latin.
Ooooo Carmina Burana is a fun piece. My high school actually played the original (choral + orchestral) version, and although it was hard to get six different music classes to coordinate rehearsals together, it ended up being pretty awesome. Especially the three different solos I got
Anyway, good luck, have fun, kick butt.
