john, you're not being graded because you haven't finished the assignment. If you want me to progress check that first one, I'll do that now, but from now on, send me a VM or a PM if you want one single task looked at. I'm only going to be grading full assignments on the thread itself.

Abomasnow: Not sure if this is what you're going for, but the Dragonite Colors give it a kinda Fall-like flare to it. Good choice. The eyes could have stood to be changed in color, they kinda stand out, but that's a bit of a detail. II-
Virizion: This...I like this. If Virizion were a seasonal pokemon, this would be my idea of its winter form. Kinda interesting you got that from Lugia's colors. I
Thundurus: Another excellent choice. Garchomp's colors really do fit this one's design. II+
Moltres: I like the idea of the gray flames and all, and you did execute the idea well enough, but, eh, Kyogre's not quite the best colors for it, in my opinion. It actually looked like you matched the other ones and these two were left 8P. Ah, well. II-
Result: II-- PASS
Excellent work, SP. What would you like to do next?

: I actually really like this one, VERY few flaws and a nice structure. A
:Okay. This is not... My favorite. There were a few problems... And frankly wasn't happy with the ones you made. So you outlined with a pink that was lighter than the rest. Let me blow it up.
I finally was able to find time to do these...and considering I was hard-pressed on figuring out what to do, I took my time.

Pikachu: This one's pretty easy to create your own shading with, since the shading's relatively scant in the old sprite. That being said, the shading on the bottom half of Pikachu's torso is a little off to me for some reason. It just doesn't seem entirely accurate. That's my only problem, though. III+
Chikorita: Excellently done. If you do the rest of these like this one, you'll be set. I-
Teddiursa: ...Not quite the same here. The shading doesn't look like it would even fit for Gen II, to be brutally honest. You need to do some extra work on this one's body shading. IV
Assignment #1.5
This mid-assignment has two tasks:
1.) Fix the Teddiursa task from the previous assignment.
2.) Growlithe Gen II --> Gen V
I have a suggestion. Why don't you teach how to make badges? There are different types as well; one that looks like an object (raindrop) and another that kinda looks like a Pokémon. You can also teach how to add the sparkling effect on the badge.

: Awesome improvement. The highs are higher and the low are lower. Good work. It is definitely cleaner than the last. A
Honestly though, I would have made the one brown shade in the beak a little browner.
: Strangely enough, the first thing I noticed is that you didn't recolor two colors in the eyes, and the mouth. That is a basic recolors thing. You have to recolor it all for it to be complete. I love the reds. They are very striking! The greens are a little too yellow. On the side of my house the roses are a little darker-stemmed. I like the ears as well. I am not going to make you do this again, as long you dont make this mistake. So I hand this B+ to you.
So now I think what we need to work on is basic stuff.
Recolor Aipom like Chimchar, without looking/using the actual colors of him.
Recolor Voltorb to resemble a beach ball (Do NOT change its color patters. But still recolor its eyes and such.)
I have a quick question; how do I colour Aipom like Chimchar, without using its colours?

Gamernamerjj
Right-O, you're starting off in the most basic form of spriting, Basic Recolors
Premise: This class is going to teach you how to recolor a pokemon's Generation V sprite with the colors of another.
Purpose: To teach new spriting students the foundation on which the entire class will be based and to furthermore show how much simpler it is than it looks
Prerequisite: None, really. However, you are going to want to download a new art program that will make these classes a LOT easier called paint.NET. If you go look it up, you can download it very easily. You can use MS Paint if you want, but the lack of a very useful tool will probably put you at a disadvantage.
Now, basic recoloring introduces a concept that will be used quite a bit now, but not quite as much later on. This concept is know as the palette swap. As you can probably guess, the colors that make up a pokemon's sprite are called the palette. Most pokemon's palettes have between 2 and 5 colors, usually 3 or 4. The idea of palette swapping is to take a pokemon sprite's palette and replace it with another's. How do we do this? We use something in paint.NET called the color changer...
STEP 1) Download the sprites of the pokemon you wish to color and the pokemon whose colors you wish to use
STEP 2) Zoom your first pokemon's sprite in close enough that you can see the individual pixels.
STEP 3) With your color picking dropper tool, grab the colors from this sprite and add them to your color palette (talk to me if you're not sure what that means)
STEP 4) Do the same with the other pokemon's colors, but now you want to match these colors up with the first sprite's. Which colors do you want to replace with which?
STEP 5) Take the color changing tool, set the Tolerance to 0%, disable Anti-aliasing, make your tool-size big enough that it envelops the whole sprite.
STEP 6) Set the color you wish to replace as the secondary color, and set the color you wish to replace it WITH as the primary color.
STEP 7) Just envelop the whole sprite with your tool and click, then ASODIFHAIOSYFGHA! You've changed that color on the whole sprite.
STEP 8) Repeat these instructions for the rest of these colors, and you'll have it completely changed.
If you have any extra questions on this, send me a VM at any time
Assignment #1
This assignment contains 3 tasks
1.)First, I want you to take the colors of Dratini and replace them with the colors of Larvitar
2.)Color Yamask with Ghastly's colors
3.)Buizel <-- Pikachu
Super Pichu62
Alright, seeing your experience with this, I'm going to go ahead and give you an exam to see if you can test out of Advanced Recolors.
EXAM
I gave this as an exam a while ago, but it's been long enough that I can probably regive it, and given your interest, I think you'll know how to handle this one.
Take 6 of the 8 forms of Eevee (itself and its 7 evolutions) and recolor them based off of the 6 main characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'm giving this assignment again because I'm a masochist. And the last time I gave it the student didn't quite understand the assignment.

The Spirit of Time
: Wow. Great creativity. You did awesome with making and using a bushel of colors! Awesome! I like how the eyes are green but the whites of them are actually yellow. There are little to no problems. A
: This is just a little less good. It has great colors, but something went wrong on the eyes. For some reason you outlined it and that made the whole thing go off. Then you made the middle of the eye a yellow. I dont get it. It is weird. Though your intentions were good. But we aren't to the part were we change the colors patterns yet. That will be later. B
This one I want to be more challenging. I want it to be so you can learn more off this one. I think you are about to the next lesson of the class. That will be pattern changing.
But for now work on this.
Recolor
- Nidoqueen
to make her look like she is made of Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Recolor
- Torkoal
so that he looks like a regular turtle. But make the smoke more like a real cloud.
Gamernamerjj
Dratini: I like it. You've grasped the concept pretty well. II+
Yamask: Great. Not much to say here, either. I-
Pikachu: Now, here's where I just have something to say. First of all, I think you misread me here, but I probably didn't quite put it correctly. I was wanting you to do the assignment based off the same order as the other two tasks, which was color Buizel with Pikachu's colors. Looking at the sprite itself, though, there's one glaring problem: I see no orange. There's blue and there's tan, but there's also orange on Buizel. Pikachu may not have enough colors to account for this, but that's where we can work with the shading. Now, we're not altering the geometry of the shading, if it calls for two different colors on each sides of a line, we still have to give it that, but you can easily make Pikachu's body both Orange and Cream. IV
Assignment 1.5
This assignment has 2 tasks.
1. First of all, I want you to try Pikachu recolored as Buizel again.
2. Then, do what the task actually asked for, and recolor Buizel as Pikachu.
Talk to me if you have any concerns, and I'll see what kind of advice I can provide.

Okay, well then, looks like you. are. mine.
plasma recommended I take you, since he doesn't know much about infernoes anymore and wants you to get the best experience, and I agree with him. Okay, so first off, Infernoes are a really, really, basic form of spriting. It's pretty much just creating different layers of colors on a sprite. Sure they're simple, but they are also time consuming, so it requires some patience. So yeah, first off I'm gonna want you to take a look at the tutorial, as it will explain everything. Then your first assignment is: Flaming Weedle Blue Pidgey Green Ekans |

Alright, that was fun. These are my first attempts that I deem "slightly worthy" of being submitted, they're good, but not that great.

Sir, I just meant that I didn't want the picture that you were to send me of Dialga to have a transparent background.
Wowwza! You did good on this too. It is hard to do improvement on something take doesn't need it. I love how you made the heads coming out of the head. That is cool. Is change some of the small things a little more. Just because you were using both, doesn't mean you cant move around the winds to other places or even just a little lower/high on the sprite. So maybe that is something. A
Do you have any questions?
Fuse
- Roserade
- Alakazam
And use Ala for the Base.
Also do this.
- Gothitelle
- Jumpluff
And use either for the base.
BLACK CHARIZARD
Rosekazam-
I do not understand how you are so good, for someone who started yesterday. I like the long nose, that is creative. I thought the arms would be a little different and without the hands, but that doesn't matter. I like the coloring on the legs. The hair is nicely placed on it. But there was something by its chest plate and its arm that bothered me. There is a pixel outline that is gone and it completely connects the chest to the hand. That is a little less clean than it should be but, like I have been saying you are a beginner. A
Jumpitelle-
Gee wizz, I dont know what went wrong on this one. I am actually glad that this one isn't good, because now I can help you improve. The first thing is the recoloring. That is horrific to say the least (no thing against you, and dont feel bad!). You made the highligght a white when the rest of the body is uch much darker than that, so that is bad, and not what I should expect from someone who passed Recolors. The puffs are oddly colored and I dont understand that. The head is placed on there bad. It looks like Gothitelle is standing behind it, rather than on it. And the head spikes are oddly colored. The mustache is okay, it is strand though. D
So, even though a D means it needs to be redone, that doesn't mean I will make you do it. You can if you want to prove something to me, but I dont care. If I could instruct you to do something differently, it is to make sure that you like it, and that it is recolored properly. AND recolor it all, the Jumpluff being blue is bad (unless the pokemon that you are fusing it with is blue).
Fuse
- Kecleon
with
- Politoed
And use Politoed as the base.
Okay, I think Polikeck looks SO much better that Jumpitelle. The Blue antenna thing coming out of Politoed's head became a tongue!
Polikeck-
1 – GalliumGrantBLACK CHARIZARD
This is pretty good. I like the head thing again. It is neatly put on there. You actually didn't do much to it. You oddly placed a tongue on the head... I was confused. You should have switched the tails. That would be something. Something you could have done is make the head thing look like it was actually on the pokemon.

I will do this assignment, although I hoped I would start with a bigger animal than a small jay. Nevertheless, I will try my best. I need to tell you though, that I don't even know what scratching is, so this class might take a while for me to pass.
EDIT:
This is the first assignment. I used Pidgey, Taillow, Starly and Pidove.
SPIRIT
. Surely it will get harder when I start to get specific on what types I want the pokemon to be. Now, you can use this scratching now, if you want, but it wont be required yet. Scratch is when you make a body part, a pattern, a whole pokemon, (etc.) from scratch. Like you just use your skill to make one of your own on the spot. So you wouldn't have taken it from any other pokemon. Hopefully that explains enough for now, but I will tell you more when you get halfway through the course. I used Meowth, Zangoose, Glameow and Purugly for cat structure. I used Altaria for the clouds and Flaffy for the colour base.

I will teach you, and hopefully make you better at Recolors. Recoloring a pokemon means for you to take the colors from one pokemon and recoloring another pokemon with those colors. Read this. After reading that then come back here and post 2 things take you have done with it. |

The hands used are Zangoose's, which is a cat Pokémon in the first place.

1 – MusicPHANTOM of the opera
You sprite is good. You should probably not make it so obvious what pokemon you used. The tail is also a bit unproportional. B
Remember? I said to make it look like I cat even tell what pokemon it is from. To do that, you need to semi completely change the parts, you could even do it before you attach it. You can change the size (manually), you can change the shape, or direction. Those are the 3 basic things you that you can do to a part to make it look new. All of those require scratching. So when I say scratch and make it look new at the same time, you should do that. But scratching alone is something different. That is when you make you own part, design (color pattern), or figure with only using your own artistic skills. That is pretty basic, but hard. That is why if you aren't too great at it, you should just make that part to the side of the sprite then put it on later. You cant to that with the figure of the sprite. You must do that right on. You also cant really do that with the color pattern, but there are some ways. Anyways. That is what you need to know about those two.
Next. Fill in the blanks with anything you want then do it.
Species: _____ Pokemon
Pokemon to use: Cottonee, _____, _____, And any fire type pokemon necessary.
Use Scratch?:Yas. Especially on the ____

When I see the first one, the first thing I notice is the tan spot on its forehead. That would be incorrect and not right. You never put on a color in that isn't the same color surrounding. That is similar to someone recolor a green pokemon then splashing one section with pink. That looks bad :/. To fix it use this little rule: Recolor from darkest to lightest, then if you need another color to highlight a section, use the previous color. So in your assignment you would have just used that color surrounding the tan, rather than the tan. And the tail is a little strange. C
The next one also breaks rules. You need to recolor EVERYTHING in a sprite. So nothing should be able to be traced back to the original pokemon, but the black and white spots. That is something major in this one, you broke that rule a few times. B
To answer you question, no. You don't have to use EVERY color, but use ALL necessary, do you see what I mean?
So now I want to see you do this.

Musharna ---> Colored as ---> Pansear
I think this is my favourite. I didn't find it too tricky.
Snubull ---> Colored as ---> Seaking
My only problem with this was figuring out which Pokémon I was going to use. I tried it with Milotic first, but it didn't have enough colours.
GamernamerJJ
Sheldew
Very good compared to that last assignment! I am pretty impressed with it, and only 2 flaws were found. The first on is that you use the same color to outline as you did on the main color of the sprite. That is okay for now and is sometimes used in normal sprites, but try to avoid it in the future if possible. The next thing is that on the line that divides the bottom from the top of Shellos, that is one coloring issue. It goes from a really dark to a really light color. That could have been avoided and was not. Though it is hard to notice that until it is pointed out, you still did good :d A
Mushasear
This one wasn't supposed to be that hard, just seeing if you could clearly identify and use the small colors that lay in this sprite. No flaws, no much you could have done better. A
Snuking
Here there is only one problem for me, that is the color selection. Most of this sprite is very good, and nothing quite wrong with it. But on the color and the spots on the body, the colors are white and dark grey. Those colors should be closer together, because it doesn't looked good when you are shading with light and dark colors, there are in betweens! B
So apply what you need to fix to this assignment.
