To provide my two cents, I do believe this is pretty much how every other forum in the galaxy does it; in other words, it's kinda odd that VR chooses to combine the two.

Alright, I should be able to add a board for registration and characters. Way back when, like in 2008 or 2009, I created the board just for us to have simple role-plays that didn't really need much character introduction. As its needs have expanded, I think, yes, that adding another board will be to its advantage.

Somewhat related to the previous suggestion, but when/if the RolePlaying board becomes more popular, it would be a good idea to have it as its own board; rather than a subforum under the Forum Games.
Almost every other forum l've seen has a similar setup like that, and it could also attract more potential RPers if it appears more noticable.

Done. If I forgot to move any, don't be afraid to ask me or another mod who can.

I don't quite recall this suggestion ever being shot down, so I'm bringing it back 'cause I'm quite interested in it, and I think others might be.

Just in case you havent heard of ASB, heres some links:

It's quite complicated to begin with, which can be considered as a con. It also requires dedication towards it, due to many things having to be archived or recorded.
But I believe if you can get a group of people dedicated toward running and maintaining it, it could become a great addition to the forum. :0

It's ultimately up to you guys whether you want it implemented or not.

For now, I would suggest starting it out in the standard Role-Playing board. If it has a large enough following, we will expand it to its own board as necessary.

Oh, well can we make a board for Pokemon analysis or something? Maybe people will come here, and not smogon for movesets if we do. It doesn't have to be a whole board, but maybe a sub-forum for battling and trading.

The first is pretty much for any kind of battles, team ratings, or talk about battling/trading.

The second is something a friend of mine wanted to do, but he has been busy with important things in his life.

There is a Pokémon of the Month on Floatzel.Net, but I've been lazy to update it on-time: http://floatzel.net/pokemon/potm.htm

Heh, I'd like to do a podcast, where a few staff members come together and just talk about completely unrelated things. Like, we have no particular subject and we just sit around and laugh.

Or just generally voice-chatting with other forum members, it's tons more fun than talking via text.

That's because people post the whole URL rather than just the video code, for example:
[YOUTUBEWIDE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwzHN_TiPfo[/YOUTUBEWIDE] will create a white box while
[noparse][YOUTUBEWIDE]kwzHN_TiPfo[/YOUTUBEWIDE] will show the video.

Unless you mean on the chat, in which case... Get Freeze on that.

Well, if the latter, the new system in VRIM3 should quell any worries. Assuming otherwise, it might be good to take a page from it: URL links to Youtube videos are automatically transformed to the video embed. Same thing with images, etc.

Or, for an alternatively fun approach, a lil' regex magic could work.

(These would all involve modding the forum like the mods that have been linked before, however they would all be relatively simple for anyone versed in PHP.)

This = good thread:
http://victoryroad.net/showthread.ph...142#post197142

Thread is not against rules.
Thread makes good points.
Thread encourages good debate.

...Message "If you like Pokémon stop complaining" = highly annoying, not appropriate, and heavily biased. People who like Pokémon are right to complain, neigh, criticize. People who like Pokémon are interested in Pokémon's future.

(Yeah yeah yeah, yell at me for posting in this thread. Not like another one is clearly marked; the alternative was bothering Cat, which doesn't seem appropriate.)

Though Tournaments are planned by third parties, TWO people is required to work them, so if you WANT to start a series of Tourneys do what Spirit of Time said and contact Cat333Pokemon and Ditto616 you need a second person to help you plan the rosters and all that.

From what I understand, you need to plan the tournament in advanced, usually one month will do; so basically get Ditto and Cat's approval and do a sign up thread but keep the first post as a placeholder, I suggest you need to make a video on Youtube and tell people about this tournament, (Cat might favorite the video thus getting new members, just give him the Video ID or something.)

For now, a forum of our size can do about 4 tournaments a year (one for every three months) when it comes time we can do 12 tournaments a year, but only if we get enough members, usually tournaments are Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Pokémon, however when it comes to a lesser known game, ask people BEFORE planning such a tournament.

Basically this is all I have to say.

Again, this is not the most ideal place for this kind of conversation. Contact Cat333Pokémon and Ditto616 with the details of your suggestion and their feedback would be the most important. Try this place too, as this group governs tournaments' selection.

In all honesty, that group isn't even used any more. That was when we actually had people wanting to make tournaments. The best and pretty much only way to host one is to get a hold of Cat AND myself.

I'm wondering about this: What do you think about making things dated today have the date of "Today" instead of "actual date", and things dated yesterday have the date of "Yesterday"? It was confusing me a lot when it comes to dates - I like to think things in relative terms when it's very recent.

This also means that I'll know whether a forum topic is updated recently without looking at the date.

Also, fix this into sorted by last post time descending order. For some weird reason it's set to thread title alphabetical ascending.

I'm surprised there isn't a place in the options to choose how to display dates (10/14/2011, 14/10/2011, 2011/10/14, Oct. 14, 2011, 14 October 2011, the "fuzzy dates" that you are referring to, etc.) for individual users.

Thanks for pointing this out. If you see anymore boards messed up like this, please let me know, because those are the defaults. (Exception: Gym League. That's supposed to be alphabetical.)

What is the exact reason for it? Is it something that is set site-wide?

I wonder whether we can get a poll going on for this.

Or is there an add-on that gives the option to do so?

A poll would be useless if there is no option to actually allow people to set their date style themselves.

Just searched for mods. Nothin'.

Actually, I meant a poll where people decide on the site-wide setting for date display.

Whoa! Seems like no one was addressing this quirk, huh?

Ah, I see. That would work, but I would like to ask that it still remain the American style (in the order of month, day, year) if we keep the current fashion due to most of visitors being American and because that is where the site is based.

I did find this, but it's hideously out of date and for an old version of vBulletin:

No problem! Besides, it's just the choice whether we use fuzzy dates or absolute dates. Easy, huh?

Guess some plugin authors do not even maintain their plugins, huh? It's sad. Oh well.

I doubt Victory Road has/will have a Facebook page given the fact Cat dislikes social networking websites, such as Facebook.

I wonder whether it's possible to... make the "Show Full" button not appear on signatures that actually fits?

Or how about moving UCP items in Quick Links drop-down to the User CP drop-down?

Already in planning to remove that entirely (and change the signature rules) due to a lot of people hating the scrolling mess.

I'm not sure how to work those menus, but I'll consider that for after the software update (as it's in the changed files).

Thanks for that. Seeing that button and scrolling signatures... Actually, it makes browsing the forums with the scroll wheel for scrolling a chore because it will scroll the oversize signature first before the whole page. I think I'm glad that the button is going away... and the signature rules more like most other forums.

These menus... are they difficult to configure? And the software update... forum software update or something else?

(I think I ask too many questions here)

Think it'll be smooth enough? Changing minor versions should be much more smoother than changing major versions - I was on a forum that upgraded to vB4 and it took weeks before the forum were back up in any way!

Yes, it should be a smooth upgrade, but I know that some of the modified files will need to be modified again, so I will need to prepare the list of changes before starting the update. Of course, I'll just leave off little "tweaks" that a certain ex-admin did.

What would be the little "tweaks" that you're talking about? If I'm not wrong, these "tweaks" would be removed after the upgrade, no?

That said, another suggestion... What do you think of consolidating Nintendo and Nintendo News?

Things like the signature scrolling and little menus that shouldn't exist.

Nintendo News is part of the RSS feed and is syndicated to Floatzel.Net.

I see.

Plugins can be enabled and disabled more easily, huh? Were the tweaks right now implemented in some fancy way, huh?

...Speaking of plugins, I wonder what sort of plugins could be used to improve the forums...

Not exactly the best way to implement a new feature. I wonder what made him did that?

Another thing: The forum avatar size limit is 150x100. This isn't square. Hmm... I wonder whether that had something to do with excessive postbit height? Though, a bit of extra height could do wonders to certain avatars, but I'm sure that it's not being considered. Right?

Edit 2: Can the accuracy of the Who's Online list for the currently active users be improved? Sometimes, users that are offline for hours can still get listed there. Also, can we use normal text for usernames? If not, can that be made into an option for users? It looks really strange - and I have a bad habit of accidentally capitalizing names if I'm not careful.

Ah yes, I didn't want height to go over 100 pixels, as I really am not a fan of excessive scrolling on a site based mostly around text, but given that there exist many 4:3 and 3:2 images, I decided to make it significantly wider.

The people that are listed but marked "offline" when you view their profiles are currently on the chat. That was broken sometime a few months back.

*starts wondering about implementing an option to enable vertical postbits*

I wonder whether there's a way to separate forum and chat online statuses?

Yea, because I need more trophies.

But seriously, I say there should be a link in your User Control Panel that allows you to go straight to your Adopted Pokemon, if this is at all possible.

Such a link will be added back to user profiles once I figure out where the VictoryBattles mess is.

This is just wrong. When we have more people viewing a category than people online, something's not right.

But what are we gonna do about it? I'm not sure what we could do about this.

Spoiler Alert:
The only reason why I'm concerned is because might join this forum for the wrong reason. Unless we limit something, there are going to be people joining this forum only because of the Internet Madness section.

But the thing is that they're not spamming nonsense or causing trouble, they're just posting in fun Forum games to pass the time.
I don't see what's wrong about that.

Regarding the "21 viewing," it appears like it was just a harmless search engine spider forking its processes so it could cover more ground indexing more pages at once. It's nothing to be worried about.
