I'm getting settled in, construction of the base is going smoothly

i was just about to start work on my city.

I have a friend at school who has a minecraft server who may be able to help, and I can always go to the Minecraft forums to get it fixed. I'm not making any promises but I expect it to be back up in less than a week, this time with craftbukkit.

Ok guys, I think I've gotten a server up and running. No mods or anything, nothing special.
I'll PM people the IP if anyone's interested.

Most home routers block ping requests.

Yay I think I finally fixed the problem! All I had to do was delete level.dat and level.dat_old

I'll set it up on the server once vista is done updating and shuts off (It's been stuck on 5/18 for an hour now. How I miss Vista)

DAMN IT. Now it's not working. I'll try one last time on the minecraft forums, then I'll try transferring the world to new files in MCEdit unless the corruption stops that.

I just bought a 2GB stick of RAM for the server. That should help a lot.

I learnt a lesson: my upstairs internet is too slow. Looks like the server's done for tonight. Sorry guys.

Theres a few reasons the other servers are better they seam to make mods to he MC server. In addition

Virtual is poor for server performance which is compounded by running vista or 7 as a host os.

Also desktop pcs dont have ECC or ErrorCorrecting Ram unless you running a mac tower. So performance is crap again.

So in conclusion you server is Crap and The MC server is also crap. I really hope the alt servers get more compete soon.

And Wow, yeah thank you for hosting that, also it's a great map with a good mix too, I plan to fix all my destruction... (I was exploring at night and Creepers came up... and I was near Kaz's house... JC747 + Creeper + Somebody House = a barely surviving JC747 and a giant hole where the house once stood... [ok I lie, it's minor wall damage])

The map is finally fixed! You can thank voordal at the minecraft forum for that <3 There are still some missing chunks, but nothing major.

Now all I need to do it find a backup script so we can avoid this in the future. Luckily I hear there's one in the wiki.

New world. Ala, SK, and I think the old one was ugly. Besides much of the nearby resources were already used. And creeper holes.

For the first few days of this, the hostile mob spawns are going to be off. I expect this to help a tiny bit with performance too.

Last night I tore down the bridge under the request of LiteTheIronMan, now I'm else where on the map, and I gave permission to zsaberslash to burn down my old house.

I finally got the RAM. Server will be down for ten minutes to an hour depending on how lazy I am and if it works.

I goofed a bit. The RAM I got is 800MHz but the motherboard can only do 667MHz. But that shouldn't be much of a problem. But I have to change my plans a bit because of that.

I'm torture-testing it now so the it'll be back up either when it crashes and I replace the old RAM or a few hours pass.

Also it actually has 2.5GB because the 2GB comes in one stick while I already had two 512MB. Too bad there are only two RAM slots so I can't have 3GB.

When the server comes back, ENABLE MOBS. There's been several million wolves prowling my tower and I can't tame them due to lack of bones/skeletons.

i think that jared should put some plugins on the server that allow locking chests.

Just for locking chests wouldn't mess with lag. I go to a server that has modifications all the time and it's actually faster than this one and it has several modifications. And they are extremely useful.

You can't, it tells you the chest is locked with a magic spell. Lol

I've been experimenting with craftbukkit a bit. I'm not sure if I want to use it just yet, though. I still need to get the hang of it.

I hope you do eventually incorporate those.

While I was testing I changed the port to 25566 so it wouldn't interfere with the regular server and I forgot to change it back. Since I'm too lazy to change it back, type in

68.80.238.124:25566

to access the server.

I restarted the server yesterday and was given a lot of messages saying the chests weren't found, so they weren't going to be locked.

It seems like these were false alarms though since all the chests worked that I tested. But be sure to check your chests (inb4jokes) every once in a while just in case.

Don't forget to update the server. As of now, it's not accessible due to 1.6. <3
