Admit it. Odds are you used to believe in a stupid internet rumor like finding Arceus in Red/blue or Lavender Town's Red/Green music killing people or whatever when you were younger.

Everything I used to think back in the day (that turned out to be wrong):

  • Farfetch'd evolved into Doduo.
  • Geodude evolved into Onix.
  • Haunter evolved by level-up (I leveled up one to the late 50s-early 60s before I finally gave up).
  • Steel was weak to Water.
  • Tombstone was an actual move.

Berries grew back each day in Diamond
I could pick and water berries in Crystal
Dialga was evil and I was destined to kill it
Training only 1 Pokemon makes you epic
There are only 4 members of the Pokemon League
Masterball is a symbol of power and is not to be used

This. And I also thought...
  • Water was super effective against Fire and Grass (I don't remember what crazy theory I came up with there. xD)
  • Ice was super effective against Fire (I thought the ice would melt into water that damages the foe. 030)
  • Grotle evolved via Leaf Stone
  • Fossils were actually useful when held
  • Shaymin was just one of those common Pokemon rather than a Legendary (I used an Action Replay on my copy of Pearl and there were tons of them on Route 223 at lv. 30.)
  • I could beat the Elite Four with just a Torterra (Not even close to lv. 80) and a Palkia

When I was 5, I thought there were only 5 boxes in the PC in Pokemon Silver. I threw a tantrum at my friend because he stored my Feraligatr in the 7th box and I couldn't find it.

I do that all the time and it works perfectly. A level 80 starter at the beginning of the E4 isn't too shabby at all, just get a free legendary via Master Ball and use your other 4 Pokemon (caught in Victory Road of course) as decoys. :3

Heh, I just hold down A. xD

I also used to try to catch other trainers' Pokemon thinking that it would actually work sometime, and I also used to restart the game a lot just because I was bored. Then I got smarter and realized what I was doing with both of those.

  • I actually did not believe in Mew under the truck. A site I found said Mew was only under the truck in Red and Blue, I only had Yellow. I believed in the version for Yellow that site had, though. If you ran around in the grass under Cerulean, you'll find Mew AND Togepi.
  • I was dead convinced Santa would bring me a Pikachu. When Christmas came and I received no Pikachu, I assumed he would make a special trip on my birthday to give me a Pikachu. I figured it was because Pikachus were rare ):
  • In Crystal, I assumed that if you lost too many battles your level would go down, so I used my way overleveled unbeatable Typhlosion all the time.
  • Bug was weak to Water and Poison.
  • Pikachu really left you forever at the end of Hey You Pikachu! First time I got to that part I cried and restarted that file.. then when I got to it a second time I pushed through and found out what really happened. I still have that file.

Here is the most epic fail eva:
Ground and Fighting were part of Rock type until Emerald. They where split into 3 types then. I STILL haven't caught a Ground or Fighting type in Crystal and before.

More fails:
Steel was weak to grass.
Mewtwo was a glitch pokemon. (After watching the Mew3 nonsense on youtube, I got suspicous O.O)
That legendaries couldn't be caught.

Yep. I probably made the biggest fails in the history of pokemon.

Oh yeah, I believed in the Celebi glitch in R/S too. Especially since there was this guy who claimed to know all about the glitch, saying that if you used EVEN ONE Action Replay code, the Celebi you would encounter through the glitch would destroy your entire game forever. You wouldn't even be able to restart, it would linger onto your new games. (I totally thought I could bypass this as I had the action replay backing up software, heh)

Oh, y'know... the good ol' A+B trick. I still do it to this day.

I used to belive in Emerald if you got all the event Pokemon you'd get a new area where the Legendary Beasts would show up, and when you got there, the Birds showed up, too. And then they'd fight, and after that the Gym Leaders would come to save your behind. And finally, Riakou would try to hit you, but your starter would take the hit, and die.

  • You were awesome if you had a party full of legendaries
  • That you were able to jump off of Mt. Silver once you beat
    Red
  • You'd get a Mew once you complete the Pokedex
  • You'd get a camera, fly to the moon, capture pictures of Jirachi and Deoxys, and then be able to capture them.
  • You'd get a GS Ball from Kurt if you got 99 apricorns and then you'd catch Celebi in Azalea Forest

Pushing the A and B buttons will make it more likely to catch a Pokemon, finding Mew under the truck, and you can catch Deoxys and Jirachi if you can manage to launch the rocket.

I still press A and B to "increase the chances of catching a Pokémon" even though it isn't true. But since I've been doing it for so long, it's almost like an OCD thing - "The reason I didn't catch it is because I forgot to press the buttons!!!" So I can't really stop.

Reading through these rumors posted here, I don't think I've heard any of them beside the pressing A and B one.

•You could interact with the ghosts in the Old Chateau. (I thought my game was broken when I couldn't move)
•Mossdeep Space Center. You could get on the rocket and catch Jirachi/Deoxys
•Your Pokemon would be even stronger if you Rare Candy'd them to level 100 instead of battling
•If you pressed A each time the Pokeball would... uh, shake? It would increase the chances of capturing it.
•If you brought Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf to the Celestic Ruins, you'd get the other versions mascot without trading.
•Running through Grass would make less Wild Pokemon appear
•If you beat the Elite 4 in Diamond/Pearl 7 times in a row, it would unlock a new secret city.

Here's one for you Yoshi.

Back when Cheat Code Central was my only gaming website I could go to as a kid on my old computer, I believed in the Yoshi glitch of Pokemon Yellow. Here's how it went:

Beat the game.
Don't run into any Pokemon on your way to Mewtwo in Unknown Dungeon.
Meet Mewtwo with Pikachu at the front of your party.

Then you fought Yoshi.

I seriously tried this and it never worked for obvious reasons.

I forget how he said it evolved, but I tried it, and when it didn't work, I was convinced he didn't have the level right, or something. He also told me that if you bred Snorlax, you'd get a Pokémon called Munchlax. I find that coincidence indescribably cool.

Actually, you might be thinking of the widely accepted A+B+Down theory. After statistical analysis, I confirmed that it does not work.
I once believed that I was good at Pokemon, then I tried the VR Dragon Gym Challenge...
I once believed that Full Revives were sold at the Pokemon Mart in Ever Grande City right before the Elite Four. For some reason, I keep remembering having lots of Full Revives. Well, that was when I relied completely on my Blaziken to get through the Elite Four.
I once believed that the Gen III anime was cool...I was a retard back then...
I once believed that Bug type sucked...okay, that might still be true...

I used to think Skarmory was a legendary Pokemon because in PMD Blue Rescue Team (The only Pokemon game I had at the time) there's only one Skarmory in the story (To my knowledge), which is in a boss battle.

yeah, they took the uber-rific cute psychic type and split it into three not-so-uberific cute psychic types. Unless shaymin was a part of the plan. It is cute and uberific, although it has a certain lack of psychicness.

Every generation there is an event Legendary with 100 base stat points in every stat. In Gen IV, both Shaymin and Manaphy would be that generation's uberkawaii Legendary. They just aren't psychic type like the rest. Come to think of it, they're not cute either...

Back when I was a little kid playing silver version, I thought Strength was throwing a giant rock at the opponent and seismic toss was throwing a giant marble at the opponent.

I used to think Onix was a rare Pokemon. I wasted a Master Ball on one in Yellow Version's Victory Road, then immediately saved afterwards. Then I found out they were common in Victory Road, and that Moltres was in the same area.

I was so pissed.

I saw a hack video of Ruby when I was younger, where the player gave Venusaur a fire stone, and it evolved into a fire Venusaur. I thought this was true for the longest time, but I thought it wasn't working because I had Sapphire instead.

I can understand why you would think somthing like that.

Another reason I look up how a pokemon evolves i have started doing that)

I once thought that lugia was a water type, and It could fly.

Wait. Fffu.
I always forget Lugia is Psychic/Flying.
It just seems more natural for him to be a Water type.

I thought Masquerain could learn fly. The fact that it couldn't broke my heart in Sapphire.

... and when I was young I thought shiny Pokemon were glitches so I would just run away when I encountered one. orz

When I was young, I did believe in the A+B+Down trick.
I remember I was playing Yellow once and I encountered a Scyther in the Safari Zone.
I freaked out and mashed many buttons when I threw the Pokéball, but all that happenned is... the game froze.
Yeah...

Did you know that in HG/SS, if you walk in the grass, Pokémon are less likely to appear?
(It's not a rumor this time, though. A Trainer's Tip sign says that in-game.)

You know that guy near Saffron City who says something along the lines of 'It looks like lady luck wasn't with me today'? I used to think sometimes an actual person named Lady Luck would be with him, and that I was just unlucky and never saw her.

I, like many other Pokemon fans of my age in my area, thought catching Missingno. would corrupt your data.
