Here's my last assignments. I think im ready for an exam now.

Finished my first Basic Coloring assignment, and here we go!

Eevee colored as Gible:

Thought it came out pretty well, I feel as though some colors could have been used better, but it was my first one!

Pichu as Squirtle:

Looks pretty good, wasn't able to match Squirtle's underbelly/shell area to Pichu at all so I just left it out.

Mudkip as Torchic:

Probably my best one, colors are very on par, IMO.

I was going to put a hose in its hands, but it was too hard for me. If you're wondering where the colors came from, I got them from a Fireman Sam picture.

Did I make you like Dragonite that much more again?

I tried putting flowers on it, but it was yet again; too hard. Although, I completely forgot to get them off Bellossom, so I'm to blame. I got the colors from a Spring painting. The body is the grass, the leafs the sky and the seed the leafs off a tree.

It's a... * drum roll*... Combusken-themed Combusken!

Seriously though:

A golden-themed Combusken.

Excellent. You're probably familiar with the concept of Basic Recoloring, but here's a little video I made that details the process.

Just a request, can you put your grading system in the topic, or at least switch to letter grades so we understand them easier?

EDIT: Started my next project as soon as I got it (A+ for enthusiasm?) and I didn't feel like double posting so here yah go! I have.... mixed results on them.

Dragonair colored as Gallade:
Thought this came out decent, after a little bit of struggle with what color I should make the wings and beads, I think I got it right.

Gallade colored as Dragonair:
Oh boy... I had a lot of trouble on this, Gallade had more shades than the Dragonair, and I guess I need to work on compensating for that... fail me already ;(

Fraxure colored as Vannilish:
I got a laugh outa this when I finished, I think I did a good job matching up the colors and such, I basically looked for something I wouldn't picture Fraxure as and tried to make it funny as possible!

First teaching session!

Jared:
I see you have gotten pretty good at this, you can't get the Exam from me, because I don't think that would be a good thing for my first time teaching.

Advice: So, I have seen that you are doing pretty well. You must have done this before the class. But what I think need the most improvement one, if anything, is you outlining, I know that you can't control the colors of your swap-y; The thing is that you can us black as an alternate. Black can be used when it looks like the outlines are looking the same as the color of the pokemon (which I mostly saw in your Dragonair).

So here is what I you like to see.

Nidoking ---> Colored as ---> Conkeldurr

Zoroark ---> Colored as ---> Bellsprout (this is the one to see how flexible you can be)

Eevee ---> Colored as ---> Any eeveelution (Please specify, and this is the easier one, like a break.)


Spirit:

So you are doing recolors? Best place to start!

Advice: Now since you are a beginner at this you can be told a few things. One of them is 'go from darkest to lightest' which works well and I encourage you to do. I also think that looking over your sprite twice (or so) is important, I often make a sprite then save and post, after I post I notice an error... That isn't good.

Here you go.

Okay, teamplasma, everything looks right and in order. I do think, however, that Platinum's doing fine with infernoes, although I'd still like to see his exam nonetheless. In the meantime, here's what I'd like to do now.

I'm going to sign up for the Trainers Class with Idno. I'd like you to sign up for Re-types, also with Idno. Once we pass those, we can have permanent coverage.

Idno, you'll be teaching us these classes, but once we are qualified to teach them, I'll have to ask that you step down, although you can continue to teach once you've passed 5 classes. Since you're teaching these two classes, I will go ahead and count it as having passed them. You then simply need to test out of 3 other classes, which I have no doubt you're capable of doing.

ADVICE: I noticed that your ear was messed up before you did. That means you probably didn't revise, look over, you sprite. and make sure you did everything right. It is a beginners mistake and you will learn from experience that looking over is VERY important. I cannot tell you how many times I have messed up the sprite and not boticed until after posting. It is a biggie.

EXAM:

Regigigas ---> Colored as ---> Mamoswine (Biggie, The dots on Regi CAN all be the same color, I think that will be fine.)

Here is my third assignment:

1-Skitty, colored as Nosepass:

This one proved to be not only easy, but a good sprite too.

2-Swellow, colored as Pelipper:

This one was hard to manage, but I think it looks fine.

3-Swinub, colored as Chikorita:

The simple shades of Swinub made it look a bit plain. I couldn't improve its shading since I didn't want to change any of its features.

ANNOUNCEMENT: I decided that whatever assignment I give, I will do too, just to make sure that it works.

The Spirit of Time:

I apologize for giving you an assignment that had pretty difficult shades. But here is what I think.


This one is my favorite, I like the colors and it looks clean on your part. A+


This one is different, the outlines on the wing is lighter than the shading around it. So that is something to work on. B-


This one I will take credit for the mistakes. I think the palette should have been a little large with shades. So yes that was a doodoo on my part. B



ADVICE: All I have to say is check over every time. Check the outlines, shading, and EVERYTHING. A common mistake is you forget your eyes in recolor, don't forget them because then you aren't switching everything. So remember my advice as you work, just for your own good.


So here is your 4th assignment.

Sandslash ---> Colored as ---> Galvantula (This is your toughy, I hope)

Kingler ---> Colored as ---> Drowzee (As I was doing this I noticed that you will have to either leave the inside of the claw how it was or somehow make it work. Which can be done)

Diglett: Good, simple so it is hard to critic. So yeah, good. A-

ADVICE: What was lacking in your first sprites was detail. Add as much as possible. BUT, not too much. Your Rattata could have had more detail. Like add the Zubat tail, or ears. I usually won't pick a pokemon that wont have enough detail to be sprited with, so that won't need to be worried about. 1 last thing, use the parts given at spriters resource. If you need help finding them, contact me.

Okay, Quad, I'm going to go ahead and skip the grading on this one, because I'd actually be giving you Vs for all of them in all honesty. Rather, let me take a quick moment to further explain how this works.

You have to pick 2 shades, and 2 shades only. These along with black and white are the ONLY shades you are allowed to use for the sprite you intend to make.

Take a look at the old sprites in your Gen I or II games and examine them. If you look closely enough, they actually have only 4 shades to them, strangely enough. It's weird, I know. But if it can be done, that's what you need to do.

Now, I'll go ahead and ask that you redo these sprites, and don't hesitate to talk to me if you have further questions.

The base color was relatively the same, yet there was a little difference. The major difference is shown in the color of the spikes.


The shading of both the sprites were equal. It was an easy task.



Overall, I think this is my best assignment so far.

First off thanks for putting all of you sprites in separate files! Second. I am going to be frank with this one. Hope I done upset you.


So this one is... different, one might say weird. I think that It is good but looks a little weird, but not much wrong with it. B+


This one looks cool, at first. If you are going to try to perfect it then you have to make as much as you can right. The shading going from the right spike to the head is a little off. A--/B++ (I can't decide)


Now I was like, 'this one is cool!'. But again, perfectionist sees something. There is a white tuft on its hand, it WAS from its hand, but when you swapped tail you should have taken it out, But it is kinda good... A-

ADVICE:
Two things...

1) Take off all of the parts if you swap them. Don't be affraid to swap things like eyes, noses, and mouths.

2)Revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise, revise... revise. :]

Alright, everyone who's taking Devamps, please wait a little bit. I'm going to be making a full tutorial on Devamping to make things easier, mainly because Devamps is one of those concepts that is particularly difficult to grasp the first time.

The main thing in fusions is trying to make a pokemon that looks like it could actually be one, but it was out of two already made ones. This isn't fitting that. B-

So I am going to tell you this. Please redo them.


ADVICE:When you are doing your next assignment you have to do the following.

Replace all of the parts you are swapping.

Make sure the the parts that you are swapping fit, like the legs on Vulpix could have been better. If it don't fit, it wont ship.

TAKE. YOUR. TIME.

If you don't like how it looks, then do it again, don't just do it once then submit if you know that it was done not the best you could have done it.

Kinda think outside the box, but if you wander too far then you might trail. And trailing leads to a bad sprite.

One sprite had more colors than the other, which was troublesome. This was the hardest, but I think I managed it.

I think I should clarify about the last sprite. Everything is recolored, including the eyes. If you haven't noticed, the iris is yellow in color just like the bird's, and the sclera is green like the bird's body.

ADVICE:::So what I have noticed that is in most of your assignments you are doing shading not too well. The colors are REALLY close together. The outlines are pretty close to the base coat. That will not do. But that IS something to work on.

1. Ugh, I have a couple people waiting to take the Devamps class, but I've been trying to make a tutorial video, mainly because Devamps is not quite as simple as it seems. Unfortunately, my recent attempt at making said video ended in utter failure. Here's where you come in-- For your exam, I need you to make a tutorial video on how to devamp the pokemon Raikou. You may use voice narration, annotations, or you can simply type on a Word or Notepad document as you work-- which-ever's best for you.

You cannot spot that many flaws but I do think that the flah has yellow on him and that there should be more on this. But that wount be held against you. A


I can't say thi one is that great. It's outlines are quite light, even if it is yellow. The green outlines are also pretty light. Also there could have been more orange. But I will not hold that against the facts. +B

I don't think I can say Fail because you don't deserve to fail, but please practice more after this. So that leave me to say.

It was weird making the yellow wiskers red.

I Tried to find a pokemon that was facing the same direction as luxio.
This one went together so well because all of the pieces just fit together,
This one was insanely difficult because i couldn't figure out where to put certain pieces.

This one has MANY bright color. I think that the spriting could have been a little better done, but it is still poor. B

Okay, there isn't much shading except for the feet of Scolipede. It's horns were weird looking, theme being parallel and all.

(I know this isn't all Saws and Scol, but this is kinda what I was looking for.) B

ADVICE: Okay O what I think you should know is that when put a part on a pokemon (but you need two) don't just put the same one on there again, but paralleled. It isn't that attractive. Just look at this.... . The wings are the same but flipped and THAT my good sir is a no no. O that is just my advice to my student.

I know how it is, especially when you color a pokemon like Roselia, which has like 4 hues that you have to make into 2 shades. You handled it quite well, though. II

Okay, Quad. Revamps is more complicated than basic Devamps, but much less complicated than advanced Devamps. Here's a basic explanation. If you don't get it after that, I'll see about providing a tutorial video.
Revamping a pokemon is a matter of taking its 4 color shading, and upgrading it to its current shading. The best way to do this is to make its Gen V sprites colors your new palette. Here's the catch: This is where you completely alter the shading. Ideally, you should make the shading similar to the Gen V sprite you're referencing. I can't explain much further without going into excruciatingly complicated detail much too complex to put in words, so I'll just give you your first assignment to see if you understand.

This assignment is to test whether or not you need further explanation on the subject. If you pass, we'll move along to Assignment #1. This assignment has 1 task.
CHOICE TASK: Take any of the first 251 pokemon's Gen I or II sprites, and revamp it to Gen V.
