SO, I'm stoked for Pokemon HG/SS, as I'm sure many of you are since the G/S/C games were arguably the best of the series.
However, by the time the games come out, i'll be 19.. .. .. It's Nintendo's fault.. I've been hooked since R/B/Y!
I'm just curious.. how old are you Pokemon lovers? How old were you when you started playing, and what generation did you start with?

Indeed. I'm 14 and I've been playing since Red, Blue, and Yellow. They initially belonged to my older siblings so I didn't start playing until, say, 2001, but I watched the anime before that.

Why won't my Pokémon Red Version save my data? I go to save and it promises that it saves, and when it's done saving, I turn the game off. An hour later, I turn it back on, and my data isn't there!

the game won't save because the cartidge's battery is dead. You might have to try to get a new one or get another red version that works. Its pretty rare to find old games with the battery still working nowadays. At least my crystal version works just fine!

Is it because there are so many people that age that (still) love pokemon?

I suppose it's cuz many people 'round Cat/Yoshi/Green's age were the first people back then to be playing Pokemon extensively. There are exceptions of course- I've been playing since RB(G)Y and I'm 14.

Haha, I'm 14, and I remember playing since Red/Blue, so I guess since I was around 3-4. I never got into the metagame until Platinum though.
