The first round has finished, and results are on page 8! Also, the brackets have been made for round 3 and it has begun! Feel free to submit your sprites by PM! And to recap, you can find the information for what you need to make for round 3 below, highlighted in blue. Finally, please note the deadline of Friday, April 22nd at 3:00 PM. Good luck!

Feel free to make sprites for future rounds early, but please do not post them here until the round you made them for begins.

SK? Making a spriting tournament? That's right! But now, you may be wondering, what is this all about? Well, this was 100% inspired by March Madness, the big college basketball tournament that comes around every March. It has 64 teams and the amount of teams remaining is halved each round. So basically, that's what I'll do with this contest, and it will be a little different.. But very similar too!

So how this will work is we will have 8 people join, and the brackets will look like this (awesome transparency fail on the words).

And as you can see, at that point it will be 1 on 1 (I'll compare your opponent's sprite with yours) all the way down until we have a winner. Positions on the bracket will be randomly selected by myself once 8 people are in.

And finally, you are probably asking what kind of sprite you should make. Also, as in the college basketball tournament, it will get tougher each round. Here are the requirements for each round.

Round 1 Requirements (8 Contestants)
1. Make 1 recolor.
2. Make 1 fusion (fuse 2 or more Pokemon).
3. Sprites must be new, and submit them on this thread!

Round 2 Requirements (4 Contestants)
1. Make 1 recolor.
2. Make 2 fusions (fuse 2 or more Pokemon).
3. Make 1 inferno.
4. Sprites must be new, and submit them on this thread!

Championship Round Requirements (2 Contestants)
1. Make 2 fusions (fuse 3 or more Pokemon).
2. Make 1 inferno.
3. Make a recolor of a fusion (2 or more Pokemon)
4. Make an inferno of a fusion (2 or more Pokemon)
5. Sprites must be new, and submit them by PM!

As you can see, you won't have to do anything too difficult, reason being I want people to be able to participate. And even for those who can't do infernoes, maybe this can be a chance for you to experiment. In fact, Shiny has a very informative tutorial that will probably help you do those. Don't hesitate to join.

Also, some of you may be nervous about fusing 3 Pokemon, but Chibi had a good post explaining how to do that, and it really isn't much more difficult than fusing 2 Pokemon. Finally, here are a few judging rules.

Judging Rules
1. There won't be a deadline unless people are taking a long time to submit. At that point points will be taken away if the deadline is not met, but that shouldn't happen.
2. Scores will be from 1-10 with decimals included.
3. I will judge as fairly as I can on a 1 vs. 1 basis between the people who are paired in the brackets.

Oh, and what's the prize for the winner? I'll make you a little graphic (around 300x25) indicating you won this contest and you can put it in your sig I suppose.

Yep, as it says right at the top of the OP you can do all of 'em in advance but.. Don't post them until the round begins or you'll have to make different ones. Shiny hit the nail right on the head.

Fusing three isn't really any harder than fusing two. The way I look at it, it's all about pulling little pieces together. Like so:

This is Phanteon, an Eeveelution. It's got Flareon as the base, part of Gardevoir as the tail, and part of Duskull for the face. Granted, this isn't the greatest fusion (it was only my third one), but still. Wasn't all that hard to do. You just have to get an idea in your head, look at everything, and start pulling pieces together.

EDIT: Of course...now that I think about it, it's not just a fusion. It's a recolor of a fusion, since I was making it a ghost-type. And if you want another example...

Toxeon. Base is Leafeon, tail is Gliscor, and the fun little yellow X is from Drifloon or Drifblim...I don't remember which one I used now. XD

What I think he means by banner is the prize. He's saying that when you make the banner, you should include the sprites made by the person for the contest.

Well I'll be honest, that's only a recolor. But you never know, your sprite could be worse than a couple of other ones, and then you'd be in the next round.

I just did the most generic fusion evar. XI It's a Mothim X Caterpie fusion.

Ehh, don't worry, if you make the next round I'll make sure the next deadline is long enough for you to get a sprite in unless your computer troubles get worse.

This one is bad, I didn't recolor it because I hate spriting Caterpie. I recolor it a little bit with one drop of orange.

By the way, if you fished in the bottom half of contestants - don't worry. You still have a chance in the next round, so good luck! I had some tough choices to make, too. Just remember that if you do something really awesome, but also do it correctly and it looks really legit, that's how you're gonna win this. :3

I'll be making the brackets soon, and they will be random placement. Please hold back your sprites for the 1st round until later, though. The OP will tell you when you can submit!

EDIT: About the "Make a recolor/inferno about a fusion" thing, does that mean fusing two Pokemon then recoloring it? I just want to make sure.

Sorry, you aren't in. Not recoloring the whole thing pretty much counted you out, that was your choice. Probably could have fused a little bit more as well. I have another contest idea though, so maybe you'll be better at spriting when that comes around.

Well I didn't really try, I know how to Fusion and Recolor but not that good oh well I don't really mind, I did bad because I felt like it.

No offense, but if you know you can't fuse or recolors, what in your mind made you wanna join the contest. Those are the most basic skills you need in spriting.
And at least believe in yourself, don't be like "Oh I suck so I'm gonna do bad" At least attempt to make it good. Not just scrap on an ear and say that's your fusion =p

victini as emolga
i tried the opposite(victini fused with emolga and pikachu as miltank)but that was easier

Well I guess the main reason why I did bad was that I needed to make a Caterpie because I thought we could just make any because I make another fusion who turn out good for somebody who is still learning. I can fuse and recolor but not too good but I join for fun.

...Definitely the hardest decision to make, and at the end of this it will probably still remain as the hardest thing to judge for all of this competition. Anyway, the dude who will move to the next round is Idno. In fact.. it kind of came down tot he recolor, and Pidgeot's neck was kind of messy,but I had already slightly favored Crawcash (or whatever you call 'im) at that point so that's how I made my decision.

Good sprites though, you two. I'm impressed, and I knew a matchup like this would have happened some time.

LucarioMario vs. Yourfriend

This was.. a relatively easy choice. LucarioMario wins. Friend's sprites weren't bad, though. For the fusion it would have been better if it was more "clean" and if it had been recolored. The recolor could have been cleaned up a bit as well.

LM's sprites were awesome, though. Absolutely loved the "Hauntvine" and the recolor was flawless.

Shiny vs. RotomGuy

Another tough decision, and we're only in the first round! I chose Rotom just by a hair. I liked Rotom's recolor slightly more (perhaps a normal Lickitung would have been less bright and allowed the sprite itself to stand out just a little more) but it really came down to the fusion, and I thought Rotom had done a better job with the fusion. It seemed to be just a little more complicated. Both spriters had very clean sprites, though.

GrassPokemonFTW vs. Alakazamaster

Yet another close decision! Both contestants had clean sprites but I just had to go with GPFTW. KAz had a very cool looking Scolipede and an awesomely evil Munna (sexy man, sexy), but GPFTW beat him out with a hot-colored (that means red/orange/yellow) Levanny and a nice fusion of 2 legendaries.

If you were eliminated, please note I have nothing against you, and most of these decisions were very very close. I have also planned future contests in the future, and heck, if you don't like mine, feel free to make one of your own.

Gonna go make the brackets and send it round 2 PMs now, once I post the brackets you can post round 2 sprites.

Edit: Fix'd first post, feel free to submit if you have pre-made stuff.
